There are 3 main universities in Singapore National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore Management University (SMU) and Singapore University of Technology & Design (SUTD). Besides these, Singapore has many local universities. NUS & NTU alone provide joint programmes with more than 16 other institutions across the world. Cost of Study

Although this is not the exact figure, the cost of undergraduate courses in Singapore may vary from S$ 6500 to S$ 7500 approximately and the cost of post graduate courses may vary from S$ 7500 to S$ 8500 approximately. This of course, is in addition to living expenses, which may amount to S$ 700 to S$ 2000, depending on your lifestyle.

Inlaks Fellowship Programme

Awarded by Inlaks Fellowship Foundation, this programme was set up in memory of the late Dr. Ravi Sankaran who followed up his detailed field studies of wild species with innovative projects to conserve their populations. This programme funds:

• Master's degree at a University abroad
• Internship with a university abroad

The scholarship covers stipend, travel funds and an amount covering course fees. In addition to this, students may also be awarded an added amount towards project expenses upto Rs. 200,000 a year.

Eligibility: Each activity is intended to have an explicit conservation focus, with an emphasis on clear on-ground conservation benefits. Successful applicants will ordinarily hold a Bachelor's degree (in any discipline) and be below the age of 30 on the date of the application deadline.

SIA Youth Scholarship for Undergraduate Degree Courses

Singapore Government awards scholarships to government endorsed students from member countries of ASEAN. Scholarships are available for undergraduate courses at NUS, NTU and SMU on the basis of academic merit and are available through open competition. Besides Medicine and Dentistry, all disciplines are open for scholarship. The scholarship will be available for all the 3-4 years of the course. In addition, a one-year bridging or foundation program will be provided if necessary.

Eligibility

• Citizen of an ASEAN country (except Singapore)
• Excellent academic records
• Good command over English
• Meet requirements of NUS, NTU and SMU
• Should not concurrently hold any other scholarships

Scholarship will cover

• Tuition fees
• Living allowance of S$ 4300 per annum
• Accommodation allowance based on different room rates at each university
• One economy class return air ticket from home country to Singapore during the course of study

Application date: Between early June and mid July every year.

Nanyang Scholarship

Nanyang Technical University's flagship scholarship is awarded to outstanding freshmen pursuing undergraduate programmes. Nanyang Scholarship recognizes students who excel academically, demonstrate strong leadership potential, and possess outstanding Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) track records.

Shortlisted candidates will be intimidated for interview.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships are awarded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the Federal Government. The Gilman Scholarships are purposely designed to train more diverse leaders in business and international affairs. About 700 scholarships of up to $5000 are awarded every year to students based on two criteria:

• Academic talent
• Financial need (includes minority communities and the physically disabled)

The students should be pursuing a 2 years course to avail this scholarship.

David L. Boren Scholarship

David L. Boren Scholarship is awarded by the US Department of Homeland Security and supports international studies in countries critical to national security, including Singapore. These scholarships are based on competition rather than need basis. David L. Boren Scholarship amounts to up to $ 20,000 a year.

Eligibility: Students must be enrolled in programmes in Singapore.

Singapore Millennium Foundation Scholarship

Singapore Millennium Foundation Scholarship is awarded to international students. This is a private Singapore based organisation offering scholarships to post-graduate and post-doctoral students engaged in field of research. The foundation offers scholarship to students based on their academic record as well as their research work. Scholarships amount up to $60,000 per year for post-doctoral researchers.

Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship

Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarships are offered to outstanding students heading off to Singapore to study. Eligible candidate should have excellent academic record in their respective field and international pursuit.

J.N Tata Endowment for Higher Studies

J.N Tata Endowment for Higher Studies was set up in 1892 by the founder of the Tata Group, Jamshedji Tata to encourage youngsters to study in the best universities abroad in all disciplines and subjects. The endowment selects 120 meritorious stars every year through a rigorous process of selection to award the loan scholarship. The amount awarded as the loan scholarship ranges between Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 4,00,000. All applicants do not necessarily qualify for the maximum amount.

The selected scholars may also qualify for a gift scholarship from the Jamsetji Tata Trust and a travel grant from the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, as may be decided at the sole discretion of the Trustees of the concerned Trusts. A gift scholarship can be for a maximum amount of Rs. 3,80,000 only.

Eligibility

• Indian nationals only
• Graduates of a recognised Indian University, with a consistently good academic record
• Students in the final year of the degree course and those awaiting final year results
• Academicians and other mid-career professionals, upto the age of 45 years, with experience in their fields, who wish to go abroad for further specialization

Applications for the loan scholarships are invited once a year, through advertisements in leading Indian newspapers on the first Saturday of December, for the following academic year.

Last date for submission of application is February 27.
